And now, the Village legacy and community extend south.
Inspired by the Village Volunteers and the Village to Village movement, a small group of residents of the towns south of the Indian River Inlet began meeting in late 2019. Despite the constraints imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, early in 2020 South Coastal Village Volunteers was organized to serve the ZIP codes of Bethany and South Bethany, Ocean View and Millville. We became a branch of Village Volunteers in July, 2020 and began to perform services for members early in 2021.
South Coastal Village Volunteers is headed by a ten-member Steering Committee who are advised by a group of Strategic Partners, area officials and professionals who lend their experience and expertise. Enthusiastic support from the community is illustrated by the large number of volunteers who are thoroughly trained and ready to serve. This response, in an area where the average age of residents is over sixty, is encouraging and underlines the need for South Coastal Village Volunteers. By connecting members with volunteers, South Coastal Village Volunteers enables our older neighbors to live independently and remain a vital part of the community for a longer time.
