If our members are the Village’s heart, our volunteers are the Village’s soul.
Volunteers give selflessly of their time, their talents, and their compassion in order to serve their neighbors and nurture a vibrant community of support for older adults in Sussex County, Delaware.
Our volunteers are also incredibly loyal. Many are members themselves. Many have been with the Village since it began operations in 2013. And part of that loyalty is due to the fact that the Village encourages volunteers to choose the services they enjoy doing and fit their availability schedule.
And volunteering has its own rewards! In a survey by the United Health Group:
- 96% of volunteers say their efforts give them a richer sense of purpose in life.
- 95% say volunteering makes their community a better place.
- 94% say it improves their mood, and 78% say it lowers their stress levels.
Ours is a proactive, data-based approach that balances supply and demand through sophisticated demographic mapping. Members can count on volunteers who are reliable neighbors. And volunteers can count on service requests that reflect their own schedules and interests.
